Mortgage aid for Non-UK citizens

Getting a mortgage to own your own home without Indefinite Leave to Remain may seem like an impossible dream but there are lenders who will consider these types of application depending on certain criteria.

You may be a skilled worker on a Tier 2, Health and Care Worker or have a spouse visa. Lenders will work in in a similar way to mortgages for UK nationals but will want to know the following:

  • The length of time remaining on the visa
  • How long you have lived in the UK
  • You have a UK bank account

In order to build up a credit score and solid employment history, you will need to have been in the UK for a minimum of 2 years.

Documents required:

  • ID such as passport/driving licence
  • Residency card/visa
  • Proof of address such as a utility bill
  • Proof of income
  • 3 months bank statements
  • Proof of outgoings such as loans and credit cards
  • Proof of deposit

It is always a good idea to check your credit report before applying to make sure there are no surprises further along the way. Each lender uses different agencies including Experian, Equifax, TransUnion and so we recommend getting your credit report from www.checkmyfile.com as this covers all the main agencies in one report.
